Professional and Graduate School Reference Requests:

I am always honored and pleased to write letters of recommendation for students that are interested in pursuing careers or academic endeavors in the area of manufacturing. If you have had more than a single course with me, have a propensity for, and show proficiency in any aspect of manufacturing please see the following list of criteria:

  • A GPA of 3.2 or higher (for graduate programs only. For co-op or work references this is not required).
  • Graduate school letters of recommendation must be for programs in manufacturing (MS), business (MBA), or closely related degrees. Be sure to tell me the degree you are pursuing.
  • Grades of B or higher for any courses we were together. Please remind me the year(s) and manufacturing courses with section number you took.
  • Active participation and member in good standing of Society of Manufacturing Engineers. If you are not an SME member you should consider asking the faculty advisor in the professional organization, you participate in for a recommendation.

If you meet these criteria, please stop by my office for a quick chat. If this is not possible, send me a picture of yourself (so I can place you) along with examples of extra-curricular activities you have participated in here at the Institute: clubs, athletic: both organized and intermural, spring break activities, etc.

If you have a work history while attending the institute, either work-study here, or someplace off-campus, please forward that to me also. A good place to quickly find this stuff is likely your resume.

You must also waive your right to review of the recommendation.  Letters of reference will never be sent directly to you.  No employer or graduate school would accept them.

SME Scholarship References:

If you are an active participant in the SME Chapter here at the Institute, I will be pleased to write a recommendation to the SME Education Foundation: SMEEF.

·       Please send me an e-mail discussing the SME activities you have participated in and outline your role in the activity.

·       The highest recommendations go to current or past executive officers, so please be specific on the position you hold/held, and the semesters you served.

·       Please let me know how you are progressing with your minor in manufacturing.

·       Give me an idea of what your current interest in manufacturing is: do you want a position in additive technologies, management, programming, etc.

·       As always, list some extra-curricular activities you are involved in: Girl Scouts, Library Committee back home, volunteer activities, etc.
