Conversational Programming

Somewhere between G-coding and CAM is a method of creating tool-paths directly from the machine controller: “conversationally”.

Steps:

·        Put the Z:/manf2000/ProtoTRAK-software/sx_511_467/ folder on your desktop. In the folder double click the PT4SXInstall.exe application to install the software.  It will create a PT4SX folder on your C:/ drive.  In that folder double click the PT4SX.exe to fire off the software.

·        Using the 3-axis conversational programming techniques in the ProtoTRAK manual (also in the manufacturing drive) each group will program the part shown below.

·        Do your program events offline, then take screen shots of them.  Put them on a MSWord doc, six to a page.  Also take a screen shot of the completed tool path and include that in the document.  Camera photos are not acceptable.  You must take screen shots.

·        The material will be a 3.0” round x ¾” thick aluminum disk.  You will need to machine a holding surface and face mill the part before cutting the project.

·        Please engrave the group name on the part somewhere, without cutting into a feature or off the part edge. Remember please, only engrave 0.0015” deep.  Deburr the part but do not remove machine marks. Use the engraving operations built into ProtoTRAK programming to identify your part.

·        When completed, cut the part off the backing.  Watch your part thickness.

·        Note, the surface finish on part perimeter will be improved if you use a climb cutting technique.

·        Chamfer all edges 0.015”

Grading Criteria

  1. Timely completion of parts. Parts must be submitted by April 3rd.  Late parts will not be accepted.
  2. Complete report showing events (6/page) and screenshots of completed toolpaths.  Must be submitted by all students with the part.  Be sure your name is on it.  Please do this individually.
  3. Conformance to specifications.
  4. Surface finish and quality of machining.
  5. No A.G.E programming.  You must use events only.
