Boothroyd-Dewhurst Design for Manufacturing and Assembly

·         Please Google Boothroyd Dewhurst and look at the information on Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly.

·         Find the section in the text dealing with the topics and review the materials shown there.

·         Using the handout packages provided, in groups of 4, complete the tutorial exercise. Estimate the completed times. I have the “solution” for comparison

The intention of the lab exercise is to familiarize us with the implications of mechanical design and it’s effect on costs.  When you have completed your exercise please be ready to discuss the following questions in lecture:

1.      What are the most important factors in considering a review of design in order to save on costs?

2.      What are the motions most “penalized” by the application of DFA principles?

3.      Did you find the exercise to be at all enlightening on design considerations?  What did you learn, if anything?
